Abstract:
WMATA Metro Bus Lines. The dataset contains locations and attributes of metro bus lines, created as part of the DC Geographic Information System (DC GIS) for the D.C. Office of the Chief Technology Officer (OCTO) and participating D.C. government agencies.
A shapefile provided by WMATA identified bus lines. A WMATA bus line represents a series of routes that comprise a complete public transportation bus line. Although the lines are captured and segmented at the internal WMATA line number (as opposed to the route number), the layer contains the most recent route delineation and attribution available.
All DC GIS data is stored and exported in Maryland State Plane coordinates NAD 83 meters.
METADATA CONTENT IS IN PROCESS OF VALIDATION AND SUBJECT TO CHANGE.

This data is used for the planning and management of Washington, D.C. by local government agencies.

WMATA digitized the bus lines using in-house, MAPINFO based viewer and digitization software that is part of their scheduling system. The linework was fitted to the NAVTEQ regional streets file. WMATA supplied the file in MAPINFO format to the District and the Office of Planning converted it to a shapefile.
