Neighborhood Investment Fund Areas. The dataset contains locations and attributes of Neighborhood Investment Fund Areas, created as part of the DC Geographic Information System (DC GIS) for the D.C. Office of the Chief Technology Officer (OCTO) and participating D.C. government agencies.
All DC GIS data is stored and exported in Maryland State Plane coordinates NAD 83 meters.

Neighborhood Investment Fund
The Neighborhood Investment Fund is an annual, non-lapsing fund to finance economic development and neighborhood revitalization in 12 targeted areas of the District. The fund is capitalized by an annual contribution of 15% of the personal property tax, not to exceed $10 million.

The Neighborhood Investment Fund is an annual non-lapsing, revolving fund to finance economic development and neighborhood revitalization efforts in 12 target neighborhoods.

The NIF is funded through an annual appropriation of 15% of a personal property tax, not to exceed $10 million annually.
What are the target areas?
Anacostia, Bellevue, Brookland/Edgewood, Bloomingdale/Eckington, Brightwood/Upper Georgia Avenue, Columbia Heights, Congress Heights, Deanwood Heights, H Street, Logan Circle, Shaw, Washington Highlands.
What types of projects are funded?
Each year the Mayor submits a spending plan to Council outlining how the annual appropriation of NIF funds will be utilized in the 12 target areas. The funds are intended to be used on projects that realize the goals of economic development and revitalization in the target areas. The FY06 spending plan features diverse range of projects will make significant investments in community facilities, housing, job training/development, and planning. The NIF also facilitates creative partnerships among District agencies, the non-profit sector and the
private sector.
How are projects identified?
The Office of the Deputy Mayor for Planning and Economic Development solicits recommendations for NIF projects from government agencies and the ANCs located within each target area. Specific grant programs funded by the NIF will release a Notice of Funding Availability or Request for Proposals when funding for the program becomes available.
