Metro Lines (regional). The dataset contains locations and attributes of Metro lines, created as part of the DC Geographic Information System (DC GIS) for the D.C. Office of the Chief Technology Officer (OCTO) by participating D.C. government agencies.
Lines were taken from legacy data from WMATA and fit to orthophotography and extracted planimetric data.
All DC GIS data is stored and exported in Maryland State Plane coordinates NAD 83 meters.
METADATA CONTENT IS IN PROCESS OF VALIDATION AND SUBJECT TO CHANGE.
Purpose:
This data is used for the planning and management of Washington, D.C. by local government agencies.

Using metro lines acquired from the surveyor's office at WMATA, staff created a ten foot buffer and traced both sided of the buffer with the Trace Tool. Staff then joined with the separating lines with the Sketch Tool and erased the sections of line that had been redrawn. Thus, the shared metro lines, such as the orange and blue, have an approximate 20 foot offset.
Staff also digitized the blue line extension following the track construction outline contained in the 2005 orthophotos. A union of all the line segments was done to make one polyline for each metro line. Staff formatted the attribution to match existing layers for continuity.
