Abstract: 3D Buildings. The dataset contains locations of Buildings in three dimensions, created as part of the DC Geographic Information System (DC GIS) for the D.C. Office of the Chief Technology Officer (OCTO) and participating D.C. government agency. OCTO 3D shapefile data along with 2D and 3D shapefile data provided by CyberCity identified building locations in three dimensions. The buildings are in ESRI Multipatch format containing detailed faces developed from the 2005 Arial Photography. All DC GIS data is stored and exported in Maryland State Plane coordinates NAD 83 meters. METADATA CONTENT IS IN PROCESS OF VALIDATION AND SUBJECT TO CHANGE.

Process description:
CyberCity, LLC created 3D ESRI Multipatch building models of 2005 DC buildings polygons using the 2005 aerial photography.  CyberCity, LLC delivered the data in shapefile format.  All 2D and 3D shapefiles were defined with the standard DC projection.  The geometry for all 2D shapefiles were repaired.  In regards to attribution, the only existing attribution thus far is an area calculation of the 3D space for each feature.  This was done in order to symbolize the features based on area, for cartographic display.  All 2D and 3D shapefiles were imported into a PGDB.  Multipatch foot prints were created for the 3D feature class.

Process description:
Certain areas of the city are missing 3D multipatch buildings and corresponding 2D files.  OCTO filled in these areas with existing building footprints from the 2005 planimetrics.  The height information is based on compuations derived from the 2004 LIDAR first return data.
