Abstract:
African American Heritage Trail locations. The dataset contains locations and attributes of African American Heritage Trail locations, created as part of the DC Geographic Information System (DC GIS) for the D.C. Office of the Chief Technology Officer (OCTO) and participating D.C. government agencies.
A database provided by the Cultural Tourism DC identified African American Heritage Trail locations and DC GIS staff geo-processed the data.
All DC GIS data is stored and exported in Maryland State Plane coordinates NAD 83 meters.
METADATA CONTENT IS IN PROCESS OF VALIDATION AND SUBJECT TO CHANGE.
Purpose:
This data is used for the planning and management of Washington, D.C. by local government agencies.

African American Heritage Trail Sites were identified from a dataset provided by Cultural Tourism DC. A point shapefile was created by geocoding the addresses. These points were compared to the 2002 orthophotographs, the building footprint layer, and the D.C. Real Property Tax owner points for address and ownership information. The geocoded points were then moved to the center of the corresponding buildings, where needed, and core attributes were checked and added.
